For this musical, the director wanted it to be obvious when the characters were transitioning through the real world, having a flashback, or having a nightmare.

By using very distinct sounds for each one like having flashbacks sound humorous and unnatural, the nightmares sound ominous. They have the scenes that take place in the real world use music or natural sounds like a school bell; I was able to keep the worlds and events separate.
